“After returning to the Pittsburgh area in 1959 and getting involved with Associated Artists, my architectural training shifted my interest to sculpture. I explored a number of media, including concrete, aluminum, bronze, steel, shaped canvas, and wood. My environmental concerns, as well as the opportunity to collaborate with the great woodworker, George Nakashima, gave me the incentive to delve into the beauty of wood and to continue to explore the direct relationship between mathematics and nature.”
